Miller Win Contract to Kick Start New Campuses

Forth Valley College has appointed Miller Construction as the main contractor for stage 1 of their new build projects in Alloa and Stirling.

After a competitive tender process the Edinburgh based company confirmed their role on Monday when Brian McQuade Managing Director Miller Construction (UK) Ltd met with College Principal Linda McKay at FVC Falkirk Campus to sign a contract.

The announcement comes just three weeks after plans for the new £21 million campus in the centre of Alloa were approved by Clackmannanshire Council.  A planning application for the new campus at Kildean has still to go before Stirling Council's Planning Committee.

The development in Alloa will be the largest investment in a public sector building in the town for decades and the college is expecting to welcome their first students through its doors in August 2011.

Linda McKay, College Principal said:

"Miller Construction have a superb reputation for educational new-builds and we are very pleased to have them on board as contractors for stage 1 of our estates development in Alloa and Stirling.

"The tender process was very competitive, but we are confident Miller Construction is the best candidate to help us realise our vision for the future of Forth Valley College.  At a time when recession is having such a significant impact on the building industry it is good to be able to bring two such major projects to Forth Valley. We will be working with Miller Construction  to optimise local benefits and opportunities as the projects progress."

Brian McQuade from Miller Construction, said

"We are absolutely delighted to be appointed as the main contractor for the new Forth Valley College Alloa and Stirling Campuses.  From the outset we have been able to demonstrate to the college our experience as experts within the further education sector.

"Miller Construction works on the basis of partnering and we are now in the process of building a close working relationship with the College.  We are confident this will strengthen as the project progresses, and we go on to deliver a state-of-the-art facility for the learners attending the Alloa and then Stirling Campuses."
